Hispanic Health and Resource
Fair.
PeaceHealth collaborated with
St. Rose Parish and other commu-
nity partners to host this event, of-
fering free health screenings as well
as social services, education, and
safety information for the Spanish-
speaking community. Nearly 400
attended this annual event, which
is now, in its 10th year, the largest
health fair in Cowlitz County.
Go Red Tea.
We held our
seventh annual Go Red
Tea for women in our
community to offer
information and
education on how
they can prevent
the No. 1 killer
of women in our
country—heart
disease. Daniel
Haghighi, DMD, was
this year’s keynote
speaker. He talked about
the importance of dental care
and heart health. There was also
a presentation on tea etiquette and
an exercise demo.
We honor Kelly Reeson, RN, for her exemplary demonstration of
PeaceHealth St. John’s mission and values.
After Sarah Gilman,* a patient at PeaceHealth Medical Group – Orthopedics,
was seen in our outpatient labs for routine testing, she left as usual, unaware
that her blood glucose value was dangerously high.
The lab notified Reeson, who called Gilman’s cell phone multiple times, but
got no answer. Reeson called Gilman’s home and reached her caregiver,
but Gilman hadn’t returned home from the lab visit. Reeson got
the make, model, and license plate number of Sarah’s car and
contacted PeaceHealth security out of concern that Gil-
man could be in a diabetic coma somewhere on hospital
grounds, but security could not locate her.
After confirming that it was OK to release Gilman’s
information to the police, Reeson contacted the 911
dispatch to report the situation. As she was relating
the information, Longview police found Gilman,
stalled in her car at an intersection. She was non-
responsive. Reeson relayed critical information regard-
ing the lab values, which was used by paramedics on
the scene, and Gilman received follow-up care in the
clinic. She is doing fine and is greatly appreciative.
Reeson’s exceptional stewardship of this critical situa-
tion helped ensure patient safety and serves as a model of care
in handling incidents such as this one. We congratulate and thank
Reeson for her dedication to high-quality patient care.
