us 9 or 10 points on a 10-point scale.

Center data available to compare
this to.)
Just ask our patients
Those numbers
are confirmed by real patients of the
Joint Replacement Center.
Take Garry Jacobs, for instance. He
was only off for one week after having
replacement surgery on both knees
before he was back on his feet and
playing bass with the worship team at
his church, Valley Christian Fellow-
ship. Of his Joint Replacement Center
experience, Jacobs says: “It was fun. You
meet a whole new group of people—all
good sports. I’d do it again.” His wife
and Joint Replacement Center coach,
Judy, confirms, “It went better than we
thought it would.”
“Joint replacement patients are getting
attentive care from experienced nurses
and therapists, and the results are gratify-
ing,” agrees William Turner, MD, medical
director of the Joint Replacement Center.
“Patients leave the hospital feeling well,
confident in their ability to recover from
surgery. It’s rewarding to all of us seeing
folks get back to active, independent
lifestyles faster than ever.”

Highlights of the Joint
Replacement Center’s first
year of serving patients
Our community’s Joint Replacement
Center, located on the top floor of
PeaceHealth St. John Medical Center,
recently marked its first anniversary.
Nearly 500 patients benefited
during that first year from the center’s
approach of getting patients in shape for
surgery and up and moving afterward.
This approach is proving successful.
Here’s how:
•
In the two years before the opening
of the Joint Replacement Center, a
patient’s average length of stay was
3.57 days. A patient’s current average
length of stay is 2.52 days.
•
In the same two years, an aver-
age of 84 percent of patients were
Physical Therapist Kendra Bennett

patient Garry Jacobs as she measures
range of motion five months after his
knee replacement surgery.
Here’s what JRC patients had to say about the program:
“The patient discharge
information was excellent.”
“Exercising and recovering together
gives a sense of normalcy.”
“It’s reassuring to see everyone doing
the same thing you’re doing.”
“The eighth-floor staff was very thoughtful.
It’s nice to know you’re not just another body.”
